Thinking Thursday: Books!

There is nothing to compare with sitting in a comfortable place with children snuggled close as you read a wonderful book to them. If you read one picture books a day to your pre-school aged child starting at age 2, they will have read 1,460 books. Double that when you read two books a day.  Think of sending them to Kindergarten with a great head start like that!

A quote from Children’s Literature, Briefly, pg. 5 says: “Beyond the immediate satisfaction, a number of benefits (of reading to children) come our way: expanded vocabulary, increased world knowledge, improved reading skills, better communication skills, strengthened knowledge of language…”

Reading to your children on a regular basis is time very, very well spent.

I love Jim Trelease’s book The Read-Aloud Handbook. Below is a super condensed pamphlet version of it. It could change your life and the life of your children…read it!
