5:30 rolls around, the garage opens, and little Elsie squeals with delight and runs to the door-- "My daddy is home!" He definitely holds a very large, very special place in her heart. I think traditions between fathers and their children are especially memorable because they usually don't get to see them as much.
I am just as excited to have Alan home, because he takes the girls and gives me a little break to finish dinner. During this time, or even during dinner, I have asked hubby to help me start a new tradition-- "Dad's Brown Bags."
Every once in a while Alan will bring home a bag with something interesting inside. It could be anything from a special treat, to a work pen from his desk, to an interesting plant growing outside his window. Hopefully it'll spark Elsie's interest and lengthen her patience while I finish dinner. And the anticipation between seeing the bag, and waiting to find out what's inside is half the fun.
