Thinking Thursday: Captives in the Car

Have you ever wished you had more time to teach your children? Your wish is granted! Every time you ride in the car with your child he or she is a captive audience (no ear buds allowed!). That is the time to brush up on those times tables and shout out:

“3 x 6 = ?”  “18.”  “Yeah! Good job!”  “12 x 8 = ?” …. “96?” “Way to go!"

Or learn the states, “Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Connecticut…”

Maybe some colors. “What color is the STOP sign?’ Or shapes. “What shape is the STOP sign?”

You could even learn songs while you drive. So many possibilities. I carry around a pack of “Brain Twister” cards in my purse for just such an occasion. I also have a pack of Spanish word cards.

Time is a valuable thing. Make it count.
